Premium Pool Renovations & Structural Modernization in Benoni
Our Specialized Renovation & Resurfacing Disciplines
Benoni’s unique geography—characterized by multiple lakes and a naturally high water table—creates severe hydrostatic pressure (underground water pressure pushing upward against the pool shell). When a pool is drained or weakened by age, this pressure can cause the floor to crack, shift, or even “pop” out of the ground. Our renovation techniques are engineered specifically to stabilize and protect your pool against these destructive local conditions.

High-Impact Before and After Transformation Case Study
See how we take a structural eyesore and convert it into a durable, modern masterpiece.
Before: Cracked Shell, Hollow Plaster & Sagging Surroundings
A large concrete pool in Rynfield had been leaking water into the underlying high water table, causing the subsoil to shift. The original marble plaster was completely hollow, stained black with algae, and peeling off in chunks. The underground hydrostatic pressure had caused a major structural fracture along the floor, and the surrounding brick paving had shifted and sagged away from the pool edge.
After: Reinforced, Resurfaced & Neatly Integrated Layout
We systematically chipped out the failed plaster down to the original concrete shell. The structural fracture was chased out, stitched permanently with high-tensile steel staples, and filled with non-shrink structural compound. To counteract the groundwater pressure, we installed a hydrostatic relief valve during the rebuild before applying a pristine, double-layer fiberglass lining. We pulled up the sagging surround, leveled the base, laid down modern charcoal bullnose copings, and neatly relaid the paving. The pool now holds water perfectly and looks brand new.
Recent Project Showcase: Full Shell Overhaul in Farrarmere
This recent project demonstrates our hands-on expertise in turning around severely compromised pools near Benoni’s water systems.
The Problem
A homeowner in Farrarmere had a marble plaster pool that was rough, heavily stained, and leaking over 5cm of water a day. Due to the high water table in the area, the pool shell had cracked right across the floor, and previous attempts by budget contractors to patch it with standard silicone had failed completely because water was pushing through from underneath.
Our Solution:
Chris personally inspected the site and designed a robust remediation plan. We stripped the interior surface completely, removing all hollow, dead plaster. We structurally reinforced the fractured floor using high-tensile steel chemical anchors and installed a hydrostatic valve. Because of the damp subsoil on the property, we advised the client to transition to a flexible, heavy-duty fiberglass lining. We applied the hand-laid fiberglass system, finished it with a brilliant white pool gelcoat, and installed brand-new dark blue ceramic waterline mosaics.
The Result:
The structural leak was completely resolved. The flexible fiberglass skin easily absorbs the slight, natural seasonal shifts of the soil without showing cosmetic or structural stress. The smooth, white finish gave the backyard a sleek, resort-style appearance, and the client reported that their weekly chemical maintenance time was cut in half.
Premium Structural Materials We Rely On
We do not use cheap, unbranded resins, thin fiberglass mats, or low-grade building sands that crack within their first winter. We protect your structural investment by using industry-leading materials from South Africa’s most trusted manufacturers:
🛡️ NCS Resins & Pool Gelcoats:
Marine-grade, high-UV-resistant resins and topcoats that ensure your fiberglass lining remains vibrant, smooth, and entirely non-porous for years.
🛡️ Premium Silica & Quartz Aggregates:
Specially graded marble dust mixtures that ensure our marble plaster finishes cure to maximum structural density and scratch-free smoothness.
🛡️ Premium Silica & Quartz Aggregates:
High-performance chemical bonding keys and non-shrink structural epoxies used to anchor steel stitches and lock pool fittings permanently into the concrete shell.
🛡️ Class 12 High-Pressure PVC Systems:
All upgraded plumbing lines use thick-walled PVC and industrial solvent cements capable of handling intense ground loads and hydraulic pressures.

High-Impact Pool Renovation Checklist
- Is the marble plaster rough enough to scratch skin or snag swimsuits?(Indicates severe chemical etching and calcification—needs resurfacing)
- Can you hear a hollow sound when you gently tap on the pool floor or walls?(Indicates the plaster has delaminated from the concrete structure and will soon peel off)
- Are there visible vertical or horizontal cracks running through the shell that constantly swallow water?(Indicates structural settling—requires high-tensile steel stitching)
- Is your fiberglass surface showing dark brown spots, “alligator skin” wrinkles, or fluid-filled blisters?(Indicates osmotic breakdown of the fiberglass shell—requires stripping and re-lining)
- Has the water level dropped past the normal evaporation rate of 5mm-8mm per day?(Indicates an active shell or plumbing fracture)
Frequently Asked Questions
Which is better for a Benoni renovation: Fiberglass or Marble Plaster?
Both have clear advantages, but because Benoni features areas with high groundwater tables and marshy subsoil, fiberglass is highly recommended for older pools or areas prone to shifting. Fiberglass forms a slightly flexible, monolithic (one-piece) skin that can absorb minor ground shifts without cracking. It is also completely non-porous, making it highly resistant to algae and saving you up to 50% on pool chemicals. Marble plaster is fantastic if you prefer a classic, natural mineral finish, but it requires strict water chemistry management to prevent staining and etching.
How long does a standard pool renovation take from start to finish?
A complete pool renovation—including stripping the old surface, executing structural repairs, modifying plumbing, tiling, and resurfacing—typically takes between 5 to 10 working days, depending entirely on the size of the pool and the weather conditions. Fiberglass linings can often be completed slightly faster than marble plaster because they do not require a prolonged damp-curing period.
Can you make my deep pool shallower during the renovation?
Yes, absolutely. This is a very common modification. We can structurally raise the floor of your pool by backfilling it, laying down a steel-reinforced concrete base, and tying it directly into the original shell. This lowers your water volume, significantly reduces your monthly electricity and chemical costs, makes the pool much easier to heat, and creates a far more practical space for family entertainment and water sports.
